This study has as starting point the political theme of Costache Negruzzi’s novella, Alexandru Lăpșneanu, theme interconnected with the crucial moments in the destiny and evolution of the protagonist. By taking scenes, facts and lines from Grigore Ureche’s chronic, Costache Negruzzi has managed to originally depict the political leader seen in many contrasting hypostases and many exceptional situations: the tyrannical and cruel leader or the feared husband. Emphasized by the author in a Romantic manner, Alexandru Lăpușneanu manages to surpass his merely historical personality (justified by his political speech) through his despotic profile, exhibiting an extreme sadism and an extreme dehumanization.
